Warhammer: The World Stands Alone CC and background

Garmr: A civilized world; industrialized and agrarianized to self sustaining levels and consisting of several diverse ecosystems, and a decent amount of unspoiled natural beauty. It’s not at all the sort of planet one would expect to find along the border the Calagari Sector, a region of the galaxy plagued by warp surges where chaos reigns supreme, and the imperial navy will not venture. Needless to say the reluctance of most law abiding imperial citizens and authorities to pass within spitting distance of this sector means that Garmr is not exactly considered a prime vacation spot; despite being a relatively peaceful place most of the time. A few small imperial guard patrols and an astropath choir are stationed on planet, and there is the occasional exchange with traders passing through the system for raw materials, but for the most part Garmr is a remote planet under the control of a decent planetary governor; its duties within the imperium is to keep watch of a local warp route to the Calagari Sector and make sure nothing too dangerous comes out.

The planetary defence force on Garmr is definitely superior in training and discipline to your average PDF regiments, and its people most hardy; they’ve held their own against pirates and small chaos warbands, but nothing in comparison to the ramshackle yet massive fleet of traitor’s and cultists that now descend upon their lone planet. What’s worse soon after the arrival of the rogue fleet, a massive but fortunately not too severe warp storm engulfed the system, cutting it off from any imperial reinforcements. Now with their  small naval contingents quickly driven off or overwhelmed Garmr is left on its own to face to face the braying hordes of the chaos gods.

Name:  Aldion Vex

Appearance:  Six feet tall, fair skin, short black hair, bandages covering his empty eye socket , rather thin
Background: Speaking bluntly Aldion is a rather young and inexperienced member of Garmr's local astropathic choir. Sure Aldion has gone through rigorous training; every psyker must, and his faith and will are unshakable; he'll never forget the day he knelt before the golden throne itself and felt the weight of the emperor's power, the radiance that melted his eyes in their sockets and to this day protects him from the terrors of the warp, but like many astropaths his experience on the battlefield is non existent. Normally deploying astropaths within front line companies to  face the forces of chaos is like deploying a small group of baby seals to get rid of some nasty fur wielding explorers with clubs, but quite frankly Planetary  Governor Krex is out of options; and the fact is his forces don't stand a chance against chaos without some level of psychic support, and so Aldion Vex finds himself away from the choir of the Governor's palace, and looking very lost in a chimera infantry transport.

Appearance: Average in height, fit with some muscle, dark red shoulder length hair, brown eyes.
Background: Scalan has been doing medic work in Garmr for some time now, he might be young but he has seen his share of horrors already. With good teaching and experience he does not shun away even from the hardest of cases and has already gained a little name for himself, he even does regular muscle training to keep himself fit and strong since you never know when you have to drag a wounded man bigger than yourself to safety in an emergency. He used to be in another location entirely as an assistant until he and his mentor were placed on Garmr and after a year or so, alas, his mentor died and it was up to Scalan to continue from there so he joined the defense force soon after.

Diagnosticator (Diagnostor) - The Diagnostor is a sophisticated medical cogitator used across the human-settled galaxy. It can detect and diagnose almost every ailment known to the Imperium, and can be incorporated into medical kits, Servo-skulls, and other dedicated medical Servitors. Any individual trained in medical knowledge in the Imperial Guard understands its use.

Injector - Most specialised drugs require injectors. These can take many forms, from low-technology, disposable syringes up to sophisticated hypo-sprays. An injector can hold one dose of any drug.

Medikit - Small, compact, and reliable, medi-kits are essential gear for every Imperial Guard squad. Each comes with a diagnostic cogitator called
a Diagnosticator complete with bio-scanner and bioprobes, along with chemicals, drugs, and other means to treat a variety of injuries and ailments

Background: Raina is a member of the upper class in Garmr, not quite nobility, but a well respected family of merchants and investors. Bartering and the Business world have always left her thoroughly uninterested despite her heritage, she has always had a knack for communing with and operating with the machine spirits which is where her true passion lies. Naturally she joined the pdf when she came of age, hoping to get access to and be able to play with their cool military tech.

Background: Born from the gutter slums in a hive city , raised by two abusive criminal parents Lucan ran away at the age of 8. Seeing how he lived in a dangerous slum this didn't go very well and he was inevitably accosted by a pack of vicious criminals , yet right when he thought it was all over for him someone appeared. Tall , strong with a glorious moustache and the bearing of a nobleman , he turned the criminals off himself in a fierce brawl. Thankful to this mysterious mustachioed hero of his Lucan began to emulate him , taking on his manner of speaking and mustachioed countenance in tribute.

Three chimera’s sped through the industrial district of the abandoned city's eerily quiet streets; the city in question went by the name of Adrian’s Folly so named after the the pirate lord Adrian Cain met his end at the hands of the PDF assaulting the city a few decades ago as indicated by the thin layer of snow on the ground it was located well within Garmr's northeastern hemisphere , and it was abandoned because of the mass evacuation after the first chaos forces began deployment nearby. The plan was extremely unorthodox, some might even call it suicidal.

One chimera contained their little command squad with the officer, astropath, operator, medic, and two more troopers (much of the transport capacity had been sacrificed to make room for command and communications equipment); the other two chimeras contained mortar teams, their objective was to set up on the tops of some industrial apartment buildings, and begin shelling coordinates that would be relayed to them by the master of ordinance as the heretical forces moved into the city. The idea was to set up several such teams across the city and try to lure the enemy into diverting forces away from their main assault on the city’s defensive emplacements. Command didn’t have much intel on what exactly they were going to be facing only that their forces in this region were heavily outnumbered, so splitting the enemy was just about their only chance; the suicide part came in where the enemy forces diverted from the main battle would be headed their way; most likely they would be outnumbered and cut off from reinforcements with less than three dozen soldiers; for many of whom this would be their first, and in all likelihood their last battle.

Lucan looked about the snug interior of the little Chimera with seemingly calm amber eyes "Seems we're going to have to be out all day for this chaps , shame that I was hoping we could get back early and I could head in for a pint." He commented in light hearted fashion.

The eyeless psyker glanced at the soldiers he was sharing a transport with, he could sense that he made them a bit nervous as psykers tended to do especially when there was so much talk of chaos about; the same chaos that tended to make psykers like him explode and take out there entire squads, or turn into ravenous deformed spawns of chaos. Truth be told there was no one more nervous than Aldion himself; he was not a warrior, and he had heard many stories of psykers more powerful than he twisted by chaos; what is more he sensed great peril was headed their way, but h was an astropath of the god emperor, if this was to be his end then so be it, he knew the horror's of chaos better than any of the others could hope to, and by the emperor he would face them in the name of the imperium! Steeling himself the astropath straightened in his seat "Somehow I don't think I'll live to SEE another drink." He quipped with a light hearted, but nervous smile as he looked around the chimera pulling down the bandage wrapped around his head to show the black holes where his eyes used to be.

Scalan was there being quiet, observing the others while thinking how it was his job to pick them back up if they fell. If there was going to be anything to left pick up from them after this, he did not care about much of their blight, as long as he stayed alive and he was able to keep others alive was all he needed to motivate himself. "Completely eyeless I see, ever thought of getting new ones?" He asks the astropath, in a serious manner.

"It may appear that I am blind, but by the grace of the emperor; I see more now than I ever could with eyes" The astropath explained vaguely to him with a chuckle as he pulled the bandage back up covering the empty eye sockets

Scalan rolled his eyes a bit. "Yeah... Sure... Right..." He now thinks the astropath might be insane a bit.

Lucan on the other hand simply chuckles , it was heartening to see someone who had lost something like that could still make a joke . Most psykers tended to be withdrawn and quiet , and it only strengthened the paranoia of the men tenfold. "Quite affable for a psyker you seem." He commented as he checked over his las pistol.

"Not as withdrawn as they would appear when around their own kind, they simply don't have much to talk to you about." The Astropath commented casually, glancing at the the captain. "Their mind wanders in places only others touched by the warp can understand, I try to keep my proverbial feet on the grou..." Aldion was cut off as a great force impacted the side of the armored vehicle with a thunderous crack, the vehicle was sent into a roll throwing them all about the compartment before crashing into a warehouse building top first bringing the chimera to an abrupt halt on its side.

Scalan had nothing else to add to the discussion, but as their vehicle got hit and sending them all in tumbling a bit until it stopped. Scalan's first priority was to make sure he himself was not badly injured and then check the others, Scalan tries to calmly investigate himself for any injuries.

A nasty hit to the head in the tumbling causes Scalan to black out for about a minute, when he comes to; the black haired Operator who had been driving the vehicle is pulling the corpse of a trooper with a broken neck off him "Are you alright?" Raina asks shaking Scalan a bit "Can you move?"

Similarly dazed, Aldion is lifting himself into sitting position against the roof of the sideways chimera ineterior waiting for the dizziness to wear off as well as the ringing in his ears.

"Well it seems we've landed in a bit of a spot of bother haven't we?" Lucan declared as he lifted himself up from the ground and let out a small cough "Well come now , we should get out of the chimera quickly!"

Scalan as he quickly comes to, feeling a bit wobbly and not remembering the details of what happened he starts to move out. "I seem to be fine..." He comments on the way out.

After clapping him on the shoulder and nodding Raina headed toward the hatch with her las rifle at the ready. The operator hit the button to open the hatch at which point the hatch did not respond, after she hit it twice more it didn't take a tech priest to tell the machine spirit had been damaged beyond repair in the crash; she took a deep breath and glanced at the lieutenant "This could take a bit" She said as she set her las rifle down, unstrapped her Lascutter from her back, and began cutting through the hatch with its high powered laser

Aldion slowly stood and steadied himself with his staff, staying a bit behind the others as he was a psyker with no armor, and they were soldiers with armor. Clumsily he drew and held his las pistol clearly only having basic training with the simple weapon.

"Excellent , well such obstacles as this are inevitable in a battle situation , no strategy truly survives contact with the enemy ehh lads?" He replied with an upbeat tone as he hefted up his chain sword.

"Does anyone need medical attention?" Scalan asked as he waited to get outside.

"Let's hope the same does not hold true for us" The psyker, joked in a bit of rather dark humor as he fully regained his balance and put away the pistol, his powers would serve him far better so long as he could focus them; he then heard Scalan's question and shook his head.

It took about a minute for Raina to slice through the hatch, as a doorway in the hatch fell away she scrambled out of the way, to strap the cutter back on her back and take up her weapon again. what the others would see through it was horrific sight. Hundreds of deformed mutants, and mad humans in filthy ragged clothes wielding everything from auto guns, to hatchets, to cutlery were Swarming the other chimera's with no concern for their own safety. The bodies of dozens of the attackers were scattered about, indicating that at first the soldiers in the chimera's had inflicted many casualties, but now the men and women in tattered clothes had overwhelmed them and were howling and laughing madly while dragging out the chimera's crew kicking ad screaming one by one to be torn apart by knives, and claws, and teeth. Fortunately for the stunned crew who had just cut their way out of the remaining chimera, the horde had seemingly not yet noticed them.

Scalan took out his rifle, the outside was already a mess and there was little they could do for the others.

Lucan's face fell like a brick off a roof as he caught sight of the situation surrounding them , for a moment panic took hold and he fell back , eyes widened with terror. What was there to do? The horrible fate of their comrades was staring them right in the face and there was no escaping it. He took in a deep breath , gripping the hilt of his chainsword tightly as he attempted to push down the bald-faced terror within him. At the very least he couldn't die in such ill grace , shaken and afraid. His mind rushed and a plan quickly took shape "Raina , I want you to cut an exit through the back of the hull so we can sneak out."
