The Apex Predator

Chris's fist slams into the punching bag , a dull whack echoing through the air as he continues to batter the poor inanimate object. Ever since Matt had left he had been thinking, none of this would have happened if only he were a bit more capable, Matt wouldn't have had to come and save them if he could only stand on his own. He was sick of it, the constant feeling of being the one everyone had to look after,eve Devi did it once in a while . It made him feel inferior , weak, like some child being forced to say back. He of course hated that, so he had started doing the only thing he could think of, take out some anger .

He would hear his phone ringing, with Devi coming up on caller ID.

Chris picks up his phone "Hey Dev, what's up?"

"Hey," She said in her usual cheery tone. "How have you been since.." She faded off. Since we were kidnapped by raging psychos and enslaved and then our friend left for god knows how long and we were kneecapped.

"I've been about as pissed off as you'd expect" He replies as he puts the phone on speaker and goes back to hitting his punching bag.

"Hm, taking it on the chin then I see... Need company?" Devi asked, rolling her eyes at the sound of him striking something.

"Why not right ? I could use some bestfriendship right about now, how are you feeling about this all?" He questions as he continues hitting the bag , the sounds growing more and more rapid until stopping abruptly, then the sound of sand pouring on the floor is heard.

"I find not thinking about things works well," She said, shrugging, then realised he couldn't see this and inwardly cursed herself. "So yeah I'll be down in a few... What's that sound?"

"I think I broke the punching bag "He replies sheepishly "Imma go get a broom, you know where my new place is right?" He asks , he doesn't think he actually told her yet.

"Your what now?" She questioned. He had most certainly not told her about this

"Uhh my new place?" He replies chuckling sheepishly as he begins to sweep up his mess "Did I not tell you in the excitement of that whole being kidnapped thing?"

"Nope, tell me now or else I won't bring over pizza," She demanded jokingly.

"Fine you monster, I got a new apartment it's not to far from the Inn alright , the building address is 5307 I'm in room 37 okay?" He explains laughing.

"Coolio," She replied, before hanging up. Around ten minutes later, there was a knock at the door and the smell of pizza wafted in.

Chris quickly goes to put on a shirt and then runs back to the door, opening it swiftly "Hey Dev, what type of pizza you get?"

"Meat feast," She responded, eyes flitting about the inside of the apartment, and she walked in uninvited, kicking her shoes off at the door. "Nice place."

Chris just frowns as she stomps into his new home "Yeah I know, bought it with the merch money ,there's a shoe rack by the way"

"Oh, cool so it's successful then I see," She said, putting her shoes into said rack. She plopped down on the sofa, and opened the steaming pizza box. "You're buying the next pizza then."

"Fine whatevs , what have you been up to all day?" He asks as he rolls his shoulders and walks over to grab a slice.

"I tried to make cookies, but they ended up merging together and burning," She said with a frown, holding the box towards him so he can easier pick up a slice. "What have you done, other than breaking a punching bag?"

"Stretching, lifting weights, flirting with Ash over the phone, taking a shower and then running around my house naked because I can" He replies grinning as he continues eating his pizza.

"Oh, at least you decided to put on clothes for me arriving," Devi said with a laugh, making a mental note to never turn up out of the blue. "I might have had a heart attack, seeing all those muscles," She poked his bicep to try and illustrate his point.

He just frowns at that "Yeah you might now want to barge in unannounced lest you get an eyeful of penis" He suggests as he plops down next to her " To be honest I've been trying to keep my mind off what happened"

"That would truly be awful," She nodded in agreement, kicking her feet up on his knee and making herself right at home. "Yeah same..." She murmured at his last sentence. "I also made cupcakes, a banoffee, profiteroles and icecream once I had burnt the cookies to distract myself. I'd have given you some, but I ate everything," She frowned slightly at this, as if realising this wasn't a very good thing, but then shrugged, dismissing the idea.

"Wow, never pictured you for a stress eater, it's a good thing you can't put on any weight" He replies smirking as he lies back on the couch "To be honest I've gotten over the Matt leaving thing, he's Matt he'll come back eventually , it was more what happened before"
