Facing Fears

"there is no reason to be frightened" Crow said to her reassuringly "The power you will use is already inside of you are, all you are learning is how to control it"

"Yeah, last time I did this I killed someone," She said bluntly. Then she took in a breath through her nose and slowly loosed it from between her teeth. She shook her head, as if chasing the anxiety that clung to her like cobwebs away. "No, okay, I can do it."

"You didn't do this though, you tapped into the power of a malevolent book, not your own power..."  Crow pointed this out hoping to help make her more comfortable with this "Have some tea please, and take a moment it is bet you are as calm as possible when we begin"

Devi drank the tea as if it was life blood. She supposed it did calm her a little. But it was only tea, so that could only be in her mind.

"Let me know when you would like to begin" Crow said to her

She loosed another breath, cheeks puffed out. "Yeah. Let's do this."

"Follow me outside then" Crow had a drink of tea before heading outside

Devi stood, apprehension still etched on her face, but she followed him regardless.

"The fist spell I will be teaching you is harness a spell that I would not start a mage off with, I'd start them off with basic magic bolts... but you are not a mage and darkness permeates your very being." as they reached the surface crow formed a bolt of pitch black fire in his hand "We'll start you with learning a a dark fire bolt"

Devi scrutinised the ebony flames. "Sweet."

"Tis most rad" Crow agreed and began to instruct her on how to extract someof her dark energy and shape it into a bolt of unnaturally hot fire that would not burn her

"Please... never say that again," Devi said, as she followed his instructions. A few moments of attempting this, she managed a small dark spark, but her sudden excitement mixed with rattling nerves whisked it away. "Shit..."

"You must maintain focus" The ghoulish wizard said her "Calm your nerves"

"What do you think I'm trying to do?" Devi grumbled, as she tried it again, but she was much too wound up to be successful.

"When I was learning dark magic I had a similar problem" Crow admitted to her after some time

"This supposed to encourage me?" Devi asked. "Keep me motivated? 'Keep it up, Dev, and some day you'll look like me!" She said in an imitation of his voice. "I'm sorry, that was mean."

Crow actually laughed at that "If you ever go too long without blood you'll wish you looked this pretty" he took it in good humor "Want to know how I got over it?" He asked her

"Imbue your grand wisdom, oh beautiful one."

"Liquid courage kiddo, I got super drunk" He said with a smirk "Nothing mixes like fire and alcohol"

"Oh, god," Devi murmured, incredulous. "You must be joking."

"Only the second half I set the library of my magic school on fire, but trust me the first time is the scariest, just get through with that and you'll be good to go... probably" He said to her

"I'm... I'm definitely going to die," She whispered. "Just tell Chris I died more badass than him."

Meanwhile Kai has been making the skeleton walk, though he was practicing for easier control over it so maybe someday he can have 2 of them.

Crow rolled his eyes "I'll be sure to do so"

"So, liquid courage" She said. "We really doing that?"
