When we were children the elders said that between the fall of the sky titans, and the new tyranny of the Dark wizard Ahzerik  our world of Ahniel experienced an age undreamed of, an age of mighty heroes and grand adventure. It was not an age of peace or safety, and at times it wasn’t one of prosperity either; it was an age of freedom. An age where a person could set out to make their own destiny, where mighty heroes whose names have been long lost cast down the last of the giants, and clashed with devious villains, and fearsome monsters. My Father told me not to believe in those fairy tales, but what the hell else is there to believe in? The elders told us It’s been fifty years since the age of heroes ended, since our overlord Ahzerik with his armies of undead and demons set out to subjugate the land. The world had seen its share of great wizards in its time, but none quite like him. Not only was Ahzerik’s skill in necromancy and summoning beyond prodigious, but his prowess in military strategy rivaled the greatest generals of the time; perhaps more importantly he had a cause he truly believed righteous; peace as his propaganda, and our overseers constantly remind us, but peace to such an extreme degree he would see the entire world in chains, worked to exhaustion, and scared for our lives in the name of it. Someone finally ratted on the elders last week, they had told us far too much, and for that the overseer had them flayed alive over the course of days as an example. Had they been part of a larger settlement they would have been turned in long ago, but we were just a small fishing village… still one of our own betrayed them... The display along with increased working hours certainly brought most of us in line, but… I can’t stay here anymore.

The village: We are rather fortunate that our home village is rather small, and not all that important. Our main export to the empire is fish, we are forced to work for most of the day, but fishing is an uncommonly private and leisurely activity by modern standards, of course most of us have to take shifts working at a stone quarry for half of every day, but we still have a bit of that exceedingly rare commodity that is free time so long as we meet our fish quota. The town’s overseer force is fairly small, and fortunately completely free of demons. A single Revenant Knight heads a force of a dozen risen dead, the revenant is clever but the others are rather dense, albeit cruel and quick to crack down on the slightest infraction with a beating.

Ahzerik’s empire: Ahzerik’s empire spans the world, or at least that’s what the propaganda says, although the elders remained skeptical, speaking vaguely of lands Ahzerik failed to tame, or deemed not worth trying. Still there is no doubt his resources and empire make up most of the known world. His forces can be broken up into a four parts; Human, Experiments, Demons, Undead. Undead make up the bulk of his armies, outside of the rare revenants they tend to be dense, and unskilled, but are unable to disobey, vast in numbers, and require nothing such as food to maintain. At the complete opposite end of the spectrum are demons; they are cunning, and powerful, but are devious and require a close eye to keep them in check thus Ahzerik only employs a small number of them. Humans are somewhere in the middle, they make better soldiers than the undead, and have a degree of personal initiative that allows for tactical flexibility, and unlike demons can be relatively easily indoctrinated; however humans can still be unpredictable and require food and water, so while human mages, administrators, and soldiers can be employed in much larger numbers than demons, they are still quite rare next to the undead. Finally Ahzerik’s experiments are hard to classify as they come in several types, they are certainly more common than demons but can consist of anything from artificial beasts, to demon/human hybrids.

Name: Winston Burrow
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Normal skills: Rock breaking, digging, brewing, literate.
Secret training: Grappling, Magic
Appearance: The first thing that tends to strike people about winston is that he is absolutely massive, not only is he over seven foot tall with one of the meanest faces that isn’t attached to a frost troll; the kind of face that screams "Big dumb thug", but as a quarryman he is covered in large well defined muscles. He has short dark hair and blue green eyes.
Background: Winston’s mother was the last apprentice to the village elder Belasar with a talent for magic, and his father was a quarryman with no talent for fishing; Winston would inherit both. When he was eight, winston’s mother was put to the sword when her grimoire was found during a random home inspection. Though his father was insistent Winston not follow his mother’s path and even enrolled him as a quarryman in the hope he wouldn’t have the time to. In the end the lure of the arcane was too strong, and Winston sought out his mother’s teacher in what little free time he had. It was just as well that the arcane called to him, as soon after he came to the elders it was discovered he was near totally incapable of wielding any weapon (other than magic) more complicated than a bashing rock, not to mention a bit of a clutz, a bad trait for someone with the rough strength of an ogre. What’s more while his is quite intelligent, his situational awareness and oratory skills leave a lot to be desired which has lead him to take a stoic persona around nearly everyone.

Name: Redd Harven 'Longshanks'
Age:18
Gender:male
Race: (fantasy ones)Half-orc
Normal skills:Tracking, Hunting, fishing,
Weapons training: Orcish Bow, Longsword, Hand to hand combat
Appearance: Redd is large and of muscular and toned build, with lime green skin covered in scars. He has a rugged look about him, not made better by the fact that he hasn't had a chance to clean himself up in a while, but when cleaned up he's got a sort of rugged handsomeness about him, with a strong jawline, piercing maroon eyes, and dark black hair that is cut short for convenience.
Background: Born to be a soldier in the mortal army of Ahzerik, Redd was taught from a young age by his two parents to be proud of the heritage of his soldier ancestors and of his destiny as a warrior. Hunting monsters, warlocks and other such threats and crushing rebellions against their ruler Ahzerik's 'just rule'. But when he was let onto the frontlines for the first time at the age of fifteen he realized everything wasn't so clean cut. Those rebellions often included children, the elderly, the sick, and the only sentence for dissent was death. Yet for a few years he suppressed his disgust at this, doing his best to avoid being assigned to such jobs, and excelling at the much more palatable work of slaying dangerous beasts and evildoers. But it was only a matter of time, a rebellion in a mining town, the whole populace sick of spending their lives in the dark mines, hammering until they dropped, he was assigned and couldn't escape it this time....The actions they took, the things he saw that day completely disillusioned him, and as night came down on the burned town, with the element of surprise he cut down those in his squad and fled into the woods a deserter.
