Everything smells of shit at the bottom of the creaking wooden boat , shit and salt , shit outweighing the salt on the whole unfortunately.That's not a figure of speech either the buckets used to hold the feces have begun to overflow and soon enough a new smell is spreading , that of thrown up food. It is a wretched lot the slaves have down here , pink-eye , e coli ,hepatitis breed like rats in the galley , not to mention the actual rats. Occasionally a few men come down and drag up some of the younger boys and women , they normally come back either screaming or dead silent. A few hours earlier a Thracian had leaped upon one of the larger Aetheopian captives , a man who had fought back during his capture and so had been scourged and broken. The rumor now is that the African had paid him to do it. Food is scarce except for gruel , and the guards often tease them with it , forcing them to dance in their chains or do...other such degrading tasks in order to get their meals. And everyone is pretty sure that old almond eyed woman who spoke gibberish in the back is actually dead. No one mourns her , her death simply means more gruel for the rest of them right? They can barely even hear the thunder through the thick six inch wooden hull of the ship , there is almost no sound but the miserable groans of the slaves , and the sounds of defecation.

Through it all there was the native roman prisoner is whistling a melody to himself, smiling and generally being up beat "So what do you think we'll be doing when we get off this boat?" He chirped to the person next to his left, he liked to look at the possitives here that's the best way to stay alive; like sure the food sucked but it ws free, and he liked dancing anyway he was quite good at it, maybe they'd get to do something cool, like uh... like be a gladiator or.... they could... well he guessed that was the only cool thing slaves really did...

"Spending the rest of our lives scrubbing some merchants' shit out of a pot" He replies bitterly .

"No way, I'm going to become a gladiator, and I'm going to become famous in the arena, kicking ass until I earn my freedom, and I'm going to be rich" Varius replied cheerfully

"Well make sure to remember little old me when you do that" He replies with a dry raspy laugh.

"Watch my back down here and you've got a deal" Varius said

Atheadra sat at the edge of everything, speaking to no one, barely even giving them a glance. Her pride trumped hunger for now, and therefore she refused any degrading acts the captors may have requested of her. Currently she twisted a bone ring around her middle finger.

Varius has just assumed she's an idiot who doesn't speak roman

Airic coughs again , throat sore from some manner of allergy "You..You think the African really paid him? To do it?" He asks.

Tomyra groans lowly as hers eyes crack upn and quickly scan around her "Where...am I?"

"I Wouldn't be surprised, I didn't bring it up but That guy deficated uncomfortably loudly, it was awkward" Varius said and glanced at the awakened girl "Slave ship"

Tomya was the first person Athaedra had bothered to spare a glance.

"Huh....thought I'd be dead....well better luck next time" She replies with a rye chuckle.

"What are you in for?" Varius asked the new girl

She laughs "Back in prison again." She replies jokingly "I've killed a lot of people " She explains "Some of them deserved it...a lot of them didn't."

"You sound like a lovely person" Varius said smartassilly

"Thank you" She replies with a grin , taking the compliment like he actually meant it.

"I just beat up a senator's son, drunk bastard grabbed my sister's tit" Varius said "The senator took exception to that..."

"I'm assuming senators are some manner of noble?" She replies .

"Essentially" Was Varius's reply

"All over a grabbed titty? Seems a foolish thing to ruin your life over" Airic remarks with a shake of his head.

"Ruin? how many times do I need to tell people i'm going to be a famous gladiator and get rich?" Varius asked with a grin

"Telling us will do very little , who's to say you don't step into the arena and get your balls smashed in by a club" Tomyra replies calmly.

"I can handle myself " Varius replied with a chuckle

"I'm sure but can you handle your balls being squished by a club?...They make a wet popping noise you know...when you crush them" She replies with an almost deranged grin.

"Well you deem just too crazzy to be worth trying anything on" Varius observed and said "No one's  going to get a shot in"
