There is many independent worlds that exist unaware of each other in an infinite stream of mana, they all have their own rules how their worlds works and what lives in them. A world may have something that might be regarded absurd in another, life might be hard to live in some and others are a paradise, some are shaped and governed by powerful beings known as gods and the rest formed in the mercy of their world's strict rules. No matter what was the norm in these worlds, in each and every one of them experienced the same unnatural phenomenon of a dimensional portal, a hole in the sky that connected their world to all the others. Then in some places a horrible army came through and conquered the world to be ruled in an iron grip by a powerful unknown beings, they started taking over different dimensions one by one, having servants, treasures and bolstering their armies numbers to show of their conquest.
