Andromeda’s Folly

In the year 15,000 A.D. Humanity has expanded beyond the milky way, and established civilizations in the Andromeda galaxy with the help of wormhole technology, and Faster than light ships. For the first six centuries things went well, planets were adapted and teraformed into worlds ripe for colonization, Thriving metropolises were built, centers or trade and industry, agriculture thrived on many planets as well. Human kind thought it had found a perfect new home. It wasn’t much longer before things started to go bad. It started with a rebellion of advanced robots created to work several of the more inhospitable mining colonies. The robots had been created because it was cheaper to send a robotic workforce a robots to mine an inhospitable world rather than teraform it. Some machines had been equipped with defenses and A.I. To better protect the world from raiders, and pirates, this proved unfortunate as the intelligent machines were able to build more machines with the plentiful resources at their disposal, for the purpose of waging war on their former masters. Not long after that a bio weapon was tested on a small rebellious human colony fighting for Independence from the milkyway galaxy. This bio weapon turned several of the inhabitants into vampire like creatures. They aren’t any stronger or faster than humans but they are harmed by too much sun, and must occasionally drink human blood to survive. These creatures raided nearby colonies for “Cattle” and retreated to dark space from which they sometimes launch raids against fringe planets (they also can turn others not by bite but by putting them in a chemical tank in which they are pumped full of the chemical that made the first batch of vamps). On top of all that you’ve got raiders, occasional meteorites carrying starship trooper style giant alien bugs, and the milkyway galaxy pumping the colonies for taxes and resources, but refuses to provide most planets with adequate protection. In a desperate attempt to improve their lot several colonies band together into the democratic Andromeda league. The league fights for Independence, order, and survival in a largely hostile galaxy, despite being outgunned, and assaulted on all front, despite being viewed as terrorists by their kin milkyway galaxy, they have no option but to fight.




Military

Andromeda League: The Andromeda league actually has a fairly well equipped military in some respects split into three branches; The First Colonial Navy, Andromeda’s Legions, and The space Rangers.

The Navy: The navy is equipped with everything from Top of the line C.N. Battleships able to hold there own against damn near any ship in the galaxy; To civilian ships outfitted for combat Refereed to as “Galleons” which usually play support roles to higher end ships. Other notable ships include Carriers, Destroyers which tend to be geared towards ship to ship combat. Siege ships which are used for large scale orbital bombardments, and Warships which tend to serve as an all purpose combat role and troop carrier. Servicemen and women also carry laser pistols
Andromeda’s Legions: These men and women make up the bulk of the Leagues ground combat forces their gear and armor are all around pretty good, and they’ve usually been through at least basic training.

M18 Laser rifle: The standard issue rifle for a legionnaire is the L6 Laser rifle; A Semi Automatic laser weapon that works great against organics and light armor, it can sever limbs. It can even take out heavy robotic infantry, and power armor if it can hit a weak spot multiple times but is virtually useless Against armored vehicles. This also comes in a carbine variant the M12.

M9 Auto Laser: The squad automatic weapon of choice for those in the legion. The weapon is highly mobile if a bit heavy. It has a decent rate of fire, the charge lasts a good while, and it fires a round strong enough to pierce most light vehicles easily.

Ion Canon: If an M9 can’t take out a vehicle an Ion cannon sure as hell can. With a punch that can take out all but the heaviest MECHS, and armor. They are sadly costly to manufacture and only special squads are issued one.

The S9 laser pistol: a weak laser pistol mostly only good against organics it is standard issue for the legion


Vehicles: the legion has access to Mechs, tanks, and light transport vehicles with mounted ion cannons or M9’s


The rangers are an advanced special forces branch capable of both Recon, and a mass Assault, with the best gear, and ships available to the other branches, but also have some special toys

Pulse Rifle: the pulse rifle is a weapon with a wide spread extremely effective at bombarding a close up enemy with enough force to turn power armor into scrap metal unfortunately it has poor range, so it is often treated like a shotgun

Ion rifle/ pistol: These are the standard issue weapons for rangers, they can melt through power armor and heavy infantry with ease, as well as some vehicles.


Power armor mark 2 : Makes the wearer stronger, comes with a heads up display, and provides protection against laser weapons

Fusion cannon: The ultimate BFG can even pierce a ships hull




The Machines: The machines have less advanced Weapons than the Andromeda league, mostly laser, with a few plasma weapons that are more powerful than laser weapons but drag behind the ion weapons of the Andromeda League. Most of their infantry is cheaply engineered, and can be taken out with a basic laser rifle. Their ships are usually Galleon class with a few minimalistic carriers and warships, no match for a C.N. Battleship. Their greatest strengths lie in two main assests; The first of which being their shear number of light units being overwhelming to say the least, and the second is the fact that their armor for ground vehicles is some of the most durable in the universe.



The fighting forces of the milkyway galaxy are almost identical to those of the Andromeda galaxy with a key difference in their superior naval resources meaning more battleships and no galleons.


The vampires: The Vampires are basically a large and highly organized self sufficient raider band hiding in dark space. Their arms are nowhere near the other factions relegated only to laser weapons, and improvised warships and vehicles, they general relegate themselves wo attacking poorly defended remote worlds. Their society is surprisingly democratic but also aggressive and barbaric, disputes are often resolved in single combat, and humans are kept by them as food and slaves.

Psions: Psion Is a term referring to a being, human or otherwise that posses some form of psychic powers. Amongst the human race a Psion’s ability can range widely from levitating a handgun, and transmitting information telepathically; To lifting armored light vehicle, hurling powerful bolts of ionized and breaking the minds of an entire enemy squad. Psions can be a game changing asset on any front rather they focus on, telekinesis, energy manipulation, or telepathy, and although all have a stronger and a weaker point many know at least a bit of each; They are a great advantage to any squad.

Psions among the Andromedans: Psions in Andromeda are seen as an irreplaceable military asset. There are certainly people who look upon them with suspicion, and a few who see them as somewhat unnatural, but virtually everyone agrees that Psions are key to the survival of the Andromeda League. Psionic power is centralized on the world of Apocrypha, an earth sized world (Part of the League of course) populated exclusively by Psions,and governed by the Psionic Council. Psions also have embassies and training facilities on several other planets in the league so they don’t have to kidnap children from their families and planets that often.

Psions in the milkyway: Given the people of the milkyway have never really had to rely on Psions for their own survival they are seen as more of freaks, and abominations by a fearful public, occasionally forced into military service

Psions and Vampires: Vampires actually have more Psions than normal humans and they pretty much rule as warlords and commanders

When his powers manifested it was seen as a bad omen so he was sent to Apocrypha immediately as the planet had refused to allow a psion Embasy on its own planet. just whatever you want, the Andromeda league has planets of all types, and many cultures, some are rural and superstitious, some are urban with aristocracies, some are varied and diplomatic. if they're psions they were either trained on a psion base on their plannet or at the academy on Apocrypha.

Xerexes though wouldn't have been able to grow up on any planet other than apocrypha, vampires are pretty well hated by the league

well to be fair like 98% of vampires are bloodthirsty raiders on the edge of space who use humans for cattle so maybe it isn't that racist
