The Emerald Isles RP Background

The Emerald isles are a set of small islands out in the Northern sea of cairn , it is a turbulent realm , divided into nine kingdoms . These kingdoms meet up once a year at the Thing , a council held by the nine lords of Bryton . To the north there is the kingdom of Laith , famous for it's whiskey , strange dishes , and fierce high land warriors . There rivals to the south are the kingdoms of the Engle's, of which there are three  , East Engle , West Seaxe , and North Engle . Yet with the arrival of the Dwares from the frigid northern seas a new kingdom was forged intent on conquering the others , the kingdom of Northumbr , chewing into the territory of both East Engle and the Laithlands. They are a hostile' barbaric' folk , never content , always raiding and stealing from their neighbors , yet also master traders and explorers. To the west of the main isle lies another Uieru , ruled by the three Gael princedoms , Cornubia ,Neath , and Laimin . Each and every kingdom is full of it's own unique culture, strife , and intrigue that we'll get to play out in this dark ages fantasy rp . I hope it'll be fun.


Laith: The great kingdom of the  Ailic tribes of the highlands ! They like their Gail cousins on Uieru divide themselves into great clans who take the name of their patron( Macbob meaning children of Robert etc) . Though generally peaceful to other countries their warriors are something to be reckoned with , painting themselves with black warpaint and charging into battle with heavy bastard swords. Every ten years all the clans meet for the great games which decide which clan shall hold the right to rule the realm. Currently the right belongs to clan MacDarrow , who's king Duncan was recently murdered in the night . Leaving a power vacuum over the land that will no doubt be quickly filled.

Northumbr: The newly founded kingdom of the Dwares  , a warlike people of the sail from the far north , in 896 C.E they invaded , tearing a swath through both the kingdoms of the Laith and East Engle and taking a swath of prime coastal territory as their own . They conduct constant raids on the other realms from their coastal dominion , which brings up difficulty at the great meetings. They believe in the Nord pantheon of gods , a set of gods including Wodi , Turr , and Fryga . They are also keen explorers and traders , their dominion in Bryta one of many in northern Ergmir .

Gael Princedoms: Although each of the kingdoms is unique in their own right they come from a common culture known as Gail, the Gail princedoms first united when the island of Uieru was invaded by a great foreign empire . Pushed back by these new incredibly organized foes the clans united into one great kingdom to push back the invaders. With their masterful ambush tactics and incredible marksmen they managed to push the Empire out of their lands , leaving their realm clean of Imperial influence unlike most of Bryta . However civil war quickly erupted between the clans and after 100 years of turbulent war they settled into the three princedoms of Cornubia ,Neath, and Laimin.

The Engle Kingdoms: Once these large swatchs of southern land were ruled by the native Brytons , a people similar to the Ails and Gails of the north and west , however in 776 A.C they were invaded by the Engles , a culture from deep in the mainland . Although the Brytons valiantly resisted these invaders eventually they were conquered and the Engle culture took over much of the largest isle of Alba. Now these kingdoms are separated into three by civil strife , East Engle , West Seaxe , and North Engle. Within this culture a new phenomenon has been born , the knight , an elite cavalry killing machine that has begun to dominate the battlefield. This has also given rise to a new form of government foreign to the other kingdoms , feudalism .

Magic: To the north of the main isles lies a small island surrounded by fog , Avalon , the haven of the old sages , an ancient order of witches that teach magic to those with the Blod . Rituals ,the ability to control fire, animal control , and shapeshifting all lie at the fingertips of witches and wizards. Magic is a great ally and a powerful enemy to be sure.

Background:Uileam , first son of Robert the Conqueror , a mighty warrior , able tactician , and shrewd politician . He is the battle scarred newly elected Patriarch of the MacNiadh clan and so far has served with distinction. Now though with more raiders constantly streaming out of Northumbr to his coastal clan's lands , he finds himself under the eyes of the people. Who count on him to protect them against ever growing numbers of foes.

Appearance: hair short cut , scruffy short beard, reddish brown hair with a few grey strands , muscular , long blade scar from the left side of his head to above his eyebrow , kinda looks like Sean Harris

Background: He is secretly the son of one of the old sages of Avalon, but his mother would never admit it being that they apparently all hate men for some unspecified reason. She trained him herself before all but exiling him and disowning him. his skills are quite extraordinary in fire magic and resisting spirits, on top of it all he is pretty good in other disciplines aside from being unable to use spirits. He is rather charming at times and polite, but secretly ambitious. he loathes having to give his services at a discount, but the witches will not vouch for him and no one will hire an undocumented wizard at full price, not that he has anything against the Macniadhs who hired him, he just feels he deserves better.

Appearance: Aza is a light skinned man with shoulder length brown hair, he's about average height with features far softer than those of most men of this land. He is a very pretty man, sometimes mistaken for a woman.

Background: Tenedor is from a not all that wealthy merchant family. They were travelers and the   roads were dangerous, so the quarter staff has been his weapon of choice since he was but a lad, the sling was more of a hobby as it is quite simple to use and good for hunting small game. He is quite proficient with his ocarina and lute the basics of which were taught t him by his father as a lad. When he was sixteen his family were lost to a Northumbr raid when they were passing through a village by the sea, though he was able to incapacitate one raider with his quarter staff tenedor survived only by fleeing the village. Ashamed by his cowardice he chose not to return home, but instead to  wander; though perhaps it was not entirely shame that motivated him to do so.
Appearance: A light skinned young man with messy brown hair and green eyes, quite young looking in a handsome way and thin but with a good bit of muscle hidden on him

Appearance: Her hair is a burst of red flame, as bright as natural red hair can get without dye, and usually hangs about her shoulders with several plaits braided in. She has large green eyes, her eyebrows are virtually invisible, and her skin is ghostly pale, with a large splattering of freckles. She has a small, slightly upturned nose, and small lips.

Background: She is the daughter of another lord a good deal than Uilieam but she was the second born daughter for whom he had little use, he had trouble finding any lords in engle to take her due to her blunt nature, in the end he offered her to a lesser noble in laith for a small tribute. On the surface a guess might observe she seems like a a lady of engle with her manners and etiquette being a tell tale sign of her origin, but upon further inspection one finds she has a spirit of pure fire, with a blunt personality and force of will coupled with a passion for the deadly arts of combat, and strategy. She is not as skilled in battle as her husband but makes up for it with outstanding logistical and tactical skills. She is also very skilled at keeping a castle and its servants/guards organized which ties into logistics.

Appearance: fairly toned but not as bulky has her husband, she has a tendency of keeping a rather neat appearance at least for a noble of laith, with her slightly long (but not nearly as long as many ladies so to be more practical) brown hair always properly done in a straight but well groomed style unless she is practicing with her weapons or in battle, her face has a very pretty appearance and her eyes are brown.

Background: The neice of Uilieam who lives at DunBroch and often aids Alwena with her errands and such. As such she has gained the respect of the people of the fort and can command them in times of desperate need. Her uncle taught her the martial arts , how to hunt , and survive on her own. Now her aunt Alwena is teaching her how to act as a noble and manage the house.
