The End of An Era Empty The End of An Era

Superheroes, those icons, those extraordinary souls who found it in themselves to fight the good fight over and over again. So often spurred on by some personal tragedy, empowered not only in abilities but in spirit. For decades they were our greatest saviors, our idols, our first best line of defense. For a time the good people of the world could rest a little easier knowing that for every alien invasion or villainous attack,  there was always someone to save the day. But now, now that era is a thing of the past, all because of the Omegas. They arrived from as if from out of nowhere, six beings of incredible power and utter misanthropy, each backed up by incredible technology beyond our capabilities and an army of bio-enhanced cybernetic minions. They came with no demands, no terms, only destruction. And our heroes, as always, rose to fight them off, but this time was different. It wasn't like the other battles with supervillains, sure back then things would sometimes seem bad, and people did die but...they always came back before. In the ensuing battles that ripped across the world, hundreds of thousands were slaughtered in droves by the armies of The Omegas, millions more displaced, a wave of terror gripped the globe!

The heroes, overwhelmed by the cavalcade of crises spanning the globe, hearing the cries of so many in need of help, responded as best they could. Sad thing that it just wasn't enough, and as they battled disaster after disaster, their ranks gradually began to thin. First, it was some of the minor heroes, Rubber Man and the Plastiques, The Bombardier, ParaSol, yet slowly the losses began to mount. Soon the headlines were calling out the death of Captain Cosmic, Amazoom, Prof. Paradox, and Atom-Bob. Eventually, it all came to a climactic head in New York City when one of the Omegas themselves engaged with the heroes. He was an old man, lean and dry, rail-thin body covered by a faded green army uniform emblazoned with the symbols of Imperial Japan, and his body glowed with atomic fire. Before the cameras that crowded the square where he'd landed, The Omega explained the motives of his compatriots, why they had begun this terrible war. Humanity was weak, slow to improve, and a great storm was coming, a test that they would not be able to pass. The Omegas were there to stop that, in their twisted way saw themselves as preparing humanity for what was to come. To do this they would bring the human world crashing down, and force them to adapt to a new one, regardless of how many died in the process.

There to stop him from his despicable goal were the Impossibles, the greatest international superhero team the world had ever seen and veterans of many a battle. Their leader Horizonman, the world's most popular hero, was a class-5 Superhuman, near unbeatable if he released his full power, and he was pissed... none of that mattered. When the dust settled, both sides lay dead in the rubble, and New York was left a shattered ruin. Despair and fear were the rule of the day, and for a while, the whole world simply held their breath and waited for the end, waited for the terrible onslaught of The Omegas with no heroes to protect them. Yet....it never came, the attacks simply stopped, and humanity was left to reflect on what had just happened. All that was left to do was mourn the dead, and begin to rebuild, all the while knowing the Omegas were still out there, perhaps plotting their next attack.

Eventually, people began to rebuild, new cities being built on the ashes of the old. Yet with that came problems, the old generation of superheroes had been wiped out down to a man, all those who hadn't died in the Omega War or the ensuing crime waves simply going into retirement. In a world still living under the looming shadow of The Omegas, supervillains, mad dictators, and criminal kingpins have made a comeback. And despite the fact that The War ended almost three years ago, The Omega's presence is still felt. In South America, an Omega known only as The Sculptor invaded the country of Brazil, decimating its army and with his army of nano-machines, swiftly set up a massive laboratory fortress deep in the Amazon rainforest. Meanwhile, another known as The Red Lady has been known to go on bloody rampages of destruction and slaughter across whole nations, with seemingly no motivation other than to instill fear. No one knows when they'll next strike, but one thing is for sure, with no superheroes left to protect us, we won't stand a chance in hell.

It's common knowledge that humanity is in desperate need of new heroes. If humanity is to survive the onslaught of the Omegas, we'll need a new line of defense. A brand new generation of the bold and the brash, of the amazing and the uncanny, of champions of sentinels. But there might just be hope yet after all. The Omega Wars were a wave of death and terror like the world has never seen, blowing the black plague and the world wars out of the water. Sadness and desolation were left in their wake, loss, and pain...Yet, all heroes have tragic backstories, and after the end of one era, new one must begin.

Setting Info:

New Era of Heroes is a superhero RP based in a setting that's more or less similar to our world with a few very important exceptions. One, superheroes, real actual superheroes (not those weirdo vigilantes in ill-fitting leotards) exist. Not only that but things like aliens, magic, time travel, super technology all exist as well in a form that we can perceive and consistently interact with. In this world, there are demons, advanced evil alien civilizations, underwater kingdoms, cybernetic test-tube babies and so on. Generally speaking superpowers or extra-normal abilities can come from any variety of sources, so don't be afraid to get a bit wild when it comes to character creation. Two, this is an Earth that has been ravaged in recent years by contact with a cabal of incredibly powerful beings known as Omegas. These Omegas arrived from outer space followed by hordes of robotic minions and declared war, and in the ensuing conflict, many died including the current generation of superheroes. This means one very important thing, and that is that the vast majority of these chars are going to be novices just beginning to try their hand at this whole superhero business. I'm hoping that'll be part of the fun of this whole deal as we'll be able to play out a group of young, inexperienced heroes trying to deal with the big dangerous world surrounding them. Anyways I hope this will be a lot of fun.
