Family reunion

After a while of awkward silence Mutt decided to reach over to turn on the radio.

Matthew stoically watched the road clearly deep in thought, but also not wanting to crash the car.

"Soooo...how long have you known Lin?"

"I'm a regular at the... establishment, met her not long after she started working there." Matthew was most definitely not going into detail into the embarrassing start of that romance, in fact his face blushed a bit just recalling it.

"Oh...she your girlfriend?" Mutt asked with a big teasing grin as he nudged Matt lightly on the shoulder with his elbow.

"Used to be..." Matthew said as he turned the radio on "That didn't work out. Fae can be... just the worst some times."

"Well you don't gotta be a racist about it...not that I'd judge I'm from Arkansas." Mutt replied with a chuckle "How far till our destination?"

"I think that in this case racism may be somewhat appropriate." Mathhew mused, fae were different from humans, they weren't all the same by any means, but each of the various types had their own base urges that compelled them towards certain behaviors many of which tended to be negative; the huldra were a fine example of this "You see Huldra like Lin experience fatigue with their romantic partners rather inevitably, and when they do they are struck with the compulsion to wipe their memories of their time together; leaving only an unrecognizable sense of longing in their former partner they can exploit at their leisure in the future... also about five minutes"

"Well that sounds almost gaslighty really, also nice." Mutt replied with a casual nod "I'm assuming she tried doing that to you?"

"She tried, she failed, I left." Matthew said rather simply, this topic clearly brought back memories he did not wish to face and he shifted uneasily.
