Galactic Grave

Less than thirty years ago the galaxy was ruled by humans, a great totalitarian nation with unquestionable military might that was known as the United Human Expansion spanned the known galaxy unchecked and unchallenged, ever expanding. They determined they were alone in the universe, there was the exception of a bit of alien wildlife, but the galaxy seemed utterly devoid of any civilizations to threaten the expansion. The only real threat to humanity’s expansion were other humans; pirates, separatists, and anarchists where a scourge upon the outer planets and shipping lanes. As such the expansion’s military, while considerable became more suited to dealing with colonial insurrection and attacks on shipping lanes than a full scale intergalactic war; for such reasons they were not prepared for such a war when it found them. A meteor or what they thought was a meteor hosting race, or seemingly several races of insectoid creature found crashed into one of the outer planets of the expansion, it was overwhelmed by the bugs over the course of days, from that planet more of these “Meteors” were flung at other planets and ships in the system, those too were quickly overrun. It did not take long for the expansion to see the threat and scramble its fleets to intercept  various meteors flung away from the system, some of these fleets were successful… most were  not. In twenty years the expansion had been pushed back to the core worlds after a series of bloody conflicts with the bugs in four more years the last planet fell, in two more years the last military fleet went offline after its was caught in a bug meteor storm. That was two years ago now most of what’s left are scavengers picking through space junk trying to scavenge enough of what’s left to survive another day, grave robbers in the tomb of mankind. There is no hope, not to those who remain.

Known Bugs

The hive mind: A bug rumored to exist, most assume it must as the swarm’s actions have been too coordinated and precise to be mere chance.

Soldiers: The soldiers are about the size of a bull, they have six bladed legs and are very fast and nimble, their body is slender perhaps the size of a small horses, they tend to either pounce on their prey or rear up and swing at it with their bladed legs, and they pack some serious armor in the form of chitin that cannot be pierced by most traditional ballistics but require a pulse rifle slug or energy weapon. Expect one per 30 swarm bugs

Swarm bugs: They are like large beetles in their appearance (the size of a medium dog), but smaller, possessing of two legs, and vulnerable to even the ballistic weapons of old, they are the bulk of the bugs.

Centipede: Resembling a centipede they are the size of a massive whale and able to breathe an acidic substance that will eat through a ship’s hull. Expect one per 10,000 soldiers

Spiders: These look almost exactly like attractive humans possessing of multiple eyes, and a retractable set of bladed legs on their backs, they prefer to capture their prey web them up and inject them with swarm bug eggs that eat them from the inside. They can communicate and use human weapons but they are thankfully rare

Scorpions: Just giant scorpions, some are the size of large dogs, others are bigger than elephants and shoot anti ship plasma blasts from their tails

Common Human weapons
Rifles:

Eradicator 4 Pulse Rifle: The eradicator is a rugged and highly reliable rifle that uses energy pulses to fire high velocity slugs at a target that will penetrate anything short of heavily armored vehicles and giant centipede bug chitin.  Many scavengers love this rifle for its sufficient accuracy in mid and low range combat, its reliability, and its ability to go full auto. Ammo can be homemade from scrap  if needed

Sentry Plasma Rifle:  Though the sentry Plasma Rifle is one of the most advanced small arms in the galaxy not every scavengers has fallen in love with this. It is a highly accurate rifle, and its energy blast will burn through even heavy vehicles. Sadly this rifle is less than durable and can break rather easily compared to the eradicator, it also cannot go full auto.

Defender laser rifle:  It’s a relic, more durable than a plasma rifle, but with less range than the sentry and even less power than a pulse rifle, still it is semiautomatic, can take down a soldier bug and is easy to recharge

Special weapons:

Fusion canon: It is a long range energy canon that can take out even heavy MECHs though it has a 10 second charge time. Good luck finding ammo for it

Plasma thrower: Fires a sustained blast of plasma that will melt nearly anything in close range. It is a bit heavy though. Good luck finding ammunition for it

Phoenix Personal Flamethrower: The only practical special weapon on this list it is easy to carry with a canister attached to the bottom, or attached to a pack, it uses a napalm like substance that kills swarm bugs dead, and can be homemade if one has some idea what one is doing.


Side arms and melee


Alloy blade: A sword of an advanced alloy that can cut through a solder bug

Hornet 2 pulse pistol: It works like the pulse rifle but is smaller and weaker and looks like a scifi revolver

Renegade laser pistol: A primitive laser pistol that has the shape of a pistol of old, it is just as powerful as the Defender but at a shorter range

MECHs

MECHs are rare giant robot suits, that can be heavy but slow or, lightly armored but fast, they can be outfitted with plasma canons, wrist blades, automatic plasma guns, rocket launchers, you name it, it can be put on a mech

Power armor: rare but also a thing a bit like halo

Ship: A small Scavenging vessel, intended to be used by a single person for long range deep space ventures. It has been heavily modified and is nearly undetectable. It has only a light laser canon in terms of weapons as it was not built for combat. The cockpit is quite large and is used as a living space by Sev with a sleeping bag on the floor, a food storage unit, portable mini electric stove, an advanced computer with which controls drones, hacks systems they interface with, ect; he can stay in there for weeks.  In the cargo hold he has even more storage, the drone station, and advanced crafting/repair stations.  
Weapons: Phoenix personal flamethrower, Renegade laser pistol, A couple auto turrets with pulse weapon technology.
Items:   Has 3 drones he uses to scavenge derelict ships and salvage their content, each with its own attachment; motion sensor, durable space suit, plenty of ammunition, repair tools and equipment, cutting torch.
Background: Sev has been a scavenger all his life, it’s really the family business, he knows his way around mechanics and hacking, he knows how to avoid risks when scavenging, and how to avoid bigger ships, and he knows how to use his weapons, but is nothing to write home about.  He scavenged under the wing of his big sister all throughout the bug war until a soldier bug tore her apart. To be honest, life didn’t change much for him when humanity fell; it just got a bit lonelier after he lost his sister.

Which ones ? Also I guess just for people ,you said there may be gatherings of humans scattered across the galaxy yes!

Not to the level they would hire bounty hunters, well there are but I don't want them to be known til later, up to two years ago he could have been working as one for the military fleet though

Background: Aidan is an AI that worked in the government as their data filter, moving data files to their right folders and bringing up said file up when asked to see it. He has extensive knowledge of all the things in that field, but he was designed with keeping his mouth shut and doing as he is told as long as the correct password was spoken. Due to the whole ordeal with the attacking bugs, he has been lonely ever since and nothing to do as he is still in working condition, despite the lack of maintenance.

Sev's radar had picked up what seemed like an old earth government distress beacon from a derelict political cruiser floating through deep space. The beacon was over a year old so it could be guaranteed no one was alive aboard the the vessel, sounded like a total jackpot, the fuel would be especially useful but there may be weapons and preserved food for the ship... of course there could also be bugs or hostile security bots on board so he had to be careful. Sev pulled his ship into the docking bay and began booting up the drones from his computer in the sealed cockpit

Aidan was on board there, a still functional AI that was trying its best to keep this place alive. Thankfully the solar panels gave the place enough energy to allow him to function and exist for now.

It would probably notice someone used the docking bay as the airlock doors oppened

Aidan senses a heat signature entering the ship as Carack jets into a derelict corner of the ship.

Aidan was just doing a maintenance check himself, another server had died... Aidan then heard the sounds coming from the docking bay and goes to take a look, something was probably broken again and the airlock being dysfunctional due to it. Aidan looks from the cameras as the doors were open and a ship came inside...? Not to mention, new unidentified things coming in. Aidan tries to scan the back of the ship with the cameras.

Three drones entered the ship , basic boxy ones with claw arms and wheels, and light weapon attachment. As per protocol Seve began a motion scan of the ship, making sure to make his own ship seem derelict to the approaching vessel

Caraak silently sneaks through the ship , grabbing up any tools and supplies he can , hoping to get in and out quick before whatever A.I runs this piece of junk finds him.

Aidan shuts off the lights on the ship, he then goes over to dispatch whatever security robots still worked and started locking the doors. Sadly he had to lock the doors manually himself, due to the entire lockdown command being broken... Aidan was going to defend the secrets in this ship as best he could.

"Hands up weapons down please, I'm not looking for trouble but be fuel on this ship is mine" Sev's voice came over the comms of one of his drones, their motion scanners had allowed them to find carack first, two of the drones had taken up positions in such a way even he couldn't take them both out. The third had interfaced with the ships main computer several rooms away through which seve had been able to lock the AI out of the ship's critical systems and send the email "Hi there, You're the first working AI i've seen in a while, do you want off this ship?"

Craak grins "Go ahead son . make my day" He replies as he continues walking , holding his newly obtained fuel and tools.

The weapon sev uses is the doors, using his interface to the main computer to cause a blast door to suddenly close most of the way and trap one of carrack's leg's and arms as he tried to walk through "Want to make a deal? or do I need to jettison your ship in the airlock out into space?"

Soon a few security robots had surrounded them, lighting them up with red light but not yet attacking. Aidan was panicking as he finds himself locked out of some of the ships systems, then he gets the email, he responds to it. "Go away, it is my sworn duty to protect the information on this ship. I cannot leave, for I have a job to do." Though considering the day and age whatever information there was still on the servers on board were useless by now, but Aidan did not know that.

"Surely you could do that better, if I brought it and you onto my ship? the government is all dead anyway, and my ship isn't falling apart" He sent the email

Carak sighs "I suggest you let my leg go " Caraak says simply.

Aidan send another reply. "Hmmm, how will I know I can trust you? What if the moment you download me in you delete me? Then get your hands on top secret stuff that I have been guarding..." Aidan says not very trusting of him.

"So here's the deal, even if you shoot my drones i can still jettison you ship with a press of a button and blow this place up with you inside while I am safe in the cockpit of my own ship. I need some of that fuel to keep my ship running to the next scrap field, but if you aren't willing to bargain then I've got noting to lose" Sev calmly explained to him,though he didn't want to hut the guy or he'd have killed him with the door.... no weapon known to man can match the doors. He said this as he was emailing the AI "Do you know how valuable an AI on my ship could be, i'm just trying to survive these days like everyone else and we can help eachother out."

"Okay first off bull , there's no way a ship of this crappy even has an engine powerful enough to cause any major damage upon detonation" Carack replies , part of his programming back in the facility pertained to the regime's ships and their use.
