Re: Devi , and the tome of eldritch horror

Crow was worried about both of the kids he found it most likely Devi would be found hiding withe her friend chris if people were after her a friend's house wasn't exactly the last place one would look. He wasn't sure but it was likely she'd be put through a rigorous inspection process when found, being that she was involved in a supernatural incident it was likely the hunters would want to make sure she wasn't tainted, then she'd b killed, and Chris would be killed for hiding her. This seemed like a recipe for disaster; especially with professional and experienced hunters on  the case, but it was their choice to make he supposed.

"It's my fault," She whispered, voice cracking. "It's my fault she's dead."

"I summoned... Something,"she replied, in a rather meek voice. She was avoiding his eyes, as guilt knotted in her chest. "It killed her..."

Chris's jaw drops and he pulls her into a tight hug , he doesn't say anything because he knows nothing he can say is gonna help. However he holds her close and tight, hoping the message will get across, that he's sorry for her and it's not her fault.

Devi stepped into the hug, face buried into his chest. Tears trickled from her eyes and sobs shuddered through her body.

Chris looks to the ground in solemnity as he holds her close , patting her on the back as she shudders , his own eyes beginning to water a bit , Dana had always done right by him. Even use to cook him breakfast back when he was too poor to get any. The woman was kind an empathetic, and dint even seem to care that her foster daughter was an un dead or that a snake person routinely walked through the halls of her house. This was a tragedy by all meanings of the word , and he could tell from the way Devi had refused to look him in the eye, that she blamed herself for this. Anger begins to boil as he envisions whatever monster Devi had let loose tearing through Dana and leaving the girl he loved a sobbing mess "Is it still out there?" He asks in a half growl.

She shook her head, though had to wait a moment before responding. "No... It's back in the book." She shuddered again as she imagined it hideous tentacles around her, preparing to devour her. She couldn't free herself of the mental image of when the first person who had ever loved her was ripped to pieces. Her hands gripped Chris' shirt, face buried in the fabric.

Chris nods and tightens his hold bit, he hates seeing her like this, crying and holding him for comfort. Devi is supposed to be strong, and confident with a dry wit and a warm smile, but he's not going to shrink away from this. She needs him here, needs to know that Dana wasn't the only person who loved her, need to know that he is there and she can call on him whenever she needs. If that means he's going to have to wipe tear stains off his shirt for a little bit than that's fine.

Devi wasn't sure how long she stood there, wrapped in Chris' warm embrace. But she was grateful for his being here, after everyone else has seemed to leave. But there came a time when the tears had stopped flowing, and she knew she'd have to free Chris from this probably rather awkward situation he had gotten himself into. So she stepped back, gave a little apology as she wiped away all the gross liquids on her face. She wasn't looking him in the eyes still; her gaze lowered to the ground. She imagined she looked like shit, with her red eyes and messy hair she hadn't brushed that morning.

Chris just shrugs and in an attempt to lighten the mood a little replies " Hey, comes with the job right?"

She tried to force a smile, she really did, to make him feel better about that lame joke if nothing else. But all she could manage was a slight upturning of the corner of her lips, before even that became too much for her. She still had yet to make eye contact with him, she didn't want to see how he was looking at her. Probably with disdain, because of what you did. Nor did she wish to see herself reflected in his eyes or his glasses; she knew she probably looked a state.

Chris nods "Yeah that joke did suck I agree....what do you plan to do now? Eventually the cops will figure out you're a supernatural and assume you did it, even if there's proof to the contrary , and they'll start hunting for you" He states a look of worry on his face as he tucks his hands in his pockets.

She shrugged; all spark had left her eyes, there was no fight left in her. "It's my fault, maybe it would be better if they found me." Her voice was nothing more than a whisper, barely audible, and it grew increasingly more quiet as the sentence continued, so the last part was barely conceivable.

She just shook her head, one simple movement that appeared almost like a twitch, indicating that it didn't matter.

Chris crosses his arms, she's shut off ,probably won't even register most of what he does. How is he going to help her here?He doesn't know, but he's not losing another friend in so short a span of time .

She stared down at her hands, studying them. She had rather long fingers, which looked rather odd considering she was so small. The light seemed to reflect off of her unhealthy looking pallor. She traced the pattern a vein made across the back of her hand absently.

Her hands froze, and then dropped to her sides. "I don't... I don't know," She replied rather pathetically. She didn't know how she was supposed to deal with this. Evidently, she wasn't doing well.

His voice shakes a little "Devi, don't do this, please." He implores her as he puts a hand on her chin and moves her head up so she can look him in the eye "Devi , I know how this feels ,believe me I do, losing people you love, I've gone through it as well, and I know it can be really easy to shut down ,, to distance yourself, but please....don't do that....you're...all I've got"
