Crane stands uneasily, rubbing at his leg. Looking curiously at Hex he shakes his head then sets about digging several items from the wreckage of his horse and the battlefield. Throwing the items in a saddlebag then putting it over his shoulder Crane sets out down the rode without another word.

Baldric looks at Allyn then follows the lord

Allyn trails after Baldric and crane one hand resting cautiously on his crossbow

(Taking that as a no from Kilo. Though I won't listen to all !0 hours of that cricket)

It takes the group until just before dusk to reach the camp at the edge of the blackwood. From the gathering darkness arises a crude wooden palisade at the forests edge, banners with a silver stallion on blue flying above the fortifications. Behind the camp, separated from it by a space of a hundred yards, another camp, smaller but far better organized and with a stouter palisade, is settled upon a low rise. Without sparing the first camp a glance Crane matches around it and heads straight for the smaller camp

Hexor recalled what he had heard of the gathering from Crane, supposedly the sorceress queen of the fey would be here, as well as several gryphon riders. It was the sorceress queen he most kept an eye out for, and not just because of the tendency of fey women towards the possession of good looks, but also because she might be an actual hazard, perhaps a match for him even... of course Hexor was rather arrogant and did not doubt his abilities against an ancient fey sorceress queen even though it might make sense to

"I never understood how you humans  are so comfortable having your camps so in the open, give me a tunnel of cave any day" The dwarf made small talk on approach.

"So what's the king gathering his army for?" Kine asked curiously, radiating naivity helped her get away with such questions. "I mean I have heard talk of war but what is it over?"

Crane grunts, "The Barrow kings control some of the best routes for trade across the north right on their border with the Marches, my cousin's men and theirs have been clashing along the borders for years. That's all well and good, until about a month back when my cousin's youngest son got killed in a raid. Now the king's on a warpath and out for blood."

Baldric shrugs at the dwarf's question, he grew up on the open moors of the Barrowlands, "Its where we live I suppose? I've never been able to understand how you dwarves could stand it in the tunnels, so little space and air. I could never handle it."

"Does't seem to min sending other peoples Sons to die" Kine said before hexor motioned for her to calm down

"A job's a job Kine, you should be more concerned with the coin and less concerned with politics"Hex said calmly to her, and looked at Crane "You'll have to excuse kine. She's not the biggest fan of nobles and the like, but like the rest of us she'll fight if you'll pay"

Crane waves his hand dismissively as they approach the gate seemingly already forgetting the matter.

Baldric can't help but let his hand drift towards his sword as they near the camp, eyes flickering across the four guards at the gate, two outside and two armed with longbows on short towers flanking the gateway.

Cranes head snaps around and he stops dead in his tracks, "Where did you hear that?" His voice is suspicious as he glares at Hex.

The sudden stop causes the guards at the gate to shift uneasily, and one even goes so far as to nock an arrow to his bow as they eye the group cautiously. Baldric and Smoke share a glance and Baldric gulps nervously

"When we set out we had a fey with us, you saw her dead on the field most likely. She was some former military type, i never really payed attention. Well she had a friend who was a particularly gossipy guard in the queens court and they'd send magic letters about it. Or at least that's how i understood it." Hexor was quite a skilled liar and wove this tail with confidence and without hesitation

Crane eyed him suspiciously still, even as he seemed to think back and recall the dead fey. Grunting in agreement he turns and strides towards the gate once more, and the guards relax ever so slightly. Though the gates remain shut as he approaches.

Baldric breathes a visible sigh of relief

Crane grunts again, suddenly quiet, as if the information is a closely guarded secret now. Which is especially odd as he seemed so forthwith with it back on the road. Approaching the gates the guards look at him in confusion, the shorter of them speaking up, "Uh a thousand pardons m'lord Crane, but didn't you depart on horseback? With uh...different men?" Crane growls under his breath and glares at the man, "Just let me in, I need to speak with my cousin." The guards share a glance before the short one shrugs and looks up at the guards on the towers, "Open the gates!" The gates creak open.

Crane once more leads the way, through rows of organized tents. The low buz of over a hundred men fills the air as the band moves through the camp. Soldiers out of armor mill about the camp, most giving only passing glances to the mercenaries. Crane makes his way to the center of the camp, where a large clearing comes into view, four big tents at the heart of it. Over one flies the silver stallion that plasters most of the camp, the sigil of the king. Over another the oak and eagles of the Fey kingdom and over the remaining two the silver shield and sword on black of the Silverguard. A quartet of griffins are tethered to stakes outside these last two tents, and a half dozen men and women armored as Silverguard stand guard or mill about in the clearing. All joined by an equal number of Fey, garbed in strange armour that seems to flow like liquid as they move.

Allyn runs an eye over all his companions, making sure they're ready in case things go south

Baldric is obviously nervous, hand still resting near his sword

Smoke looks about himself curiously
